The Jiangsu Provincial City Football League, known as ‘Su Chao’, has once again set a new record for single-match attendance.
According to comprehensive reports by CCTV Sports and The Paper, the sixth-round match between Nanjing and Suzhou took place on Saturday (July 5) evening at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center. This match attracted 60,396 spectators, setting a new record for attendance at Chinese amateur football events.
The Su Chao league, which kicked off on May 10, features one team from each of the province’s 13 cities, each named after its city.
According to a report by China Youth Daily, statistics show that among the 516 players participating in this season’s Su Chao, only 29 are professional players; the rest are amateurs, including students, food delivery workers, programmers, and others.
Wang Xiaowan, vice chairman of the Jiangsu Football Association, said that although the competition is designated as an amateur event, the level of competition and entertainment value are both high, which is attributed to Jiangsu’s longstanding emphasis on football.
