(Miri, 7th) Following the theft of cables used for lantern decorations by the Miri Chinese Chamber, thieves have struck again recently, stealing cables from the 'I Love Miri' (Sayangi Miri) landmark sign located on King Road, a popular check-in spot.
According to reports, this theft occurred during the lantern decoration work undertaken by contractors of the Miri Chinese Chamber. Thieves stole all the cables powering the 'I Love Miri' landmark sign, rendering it unable to light up at night. As the area is not under the jurisdiction of the Miri Chinese Chamber, they are only involved in the installation of some lanterns and decorative lighting as part of the 2025 Miri Colorful Bazaar (Miri Gong xi Bazaar) at this location.
The 'I Love Miri' landmark sign was constructed by the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) in 2021 to promote Miri tourism and culture, and it was officially handed over to the Miri City Council for maintenance in 2023.
