On the 20th, the labor union of South Korea’s Samsung Electronics announced that, as the two sides failed to reach an agreement on salary and other issues, the union will legally initiate a full strike on the 21st.
The Samsung Electronics branch of the Samsung Group Intercorporate Union pointed out that the union had agreed on the 19th to a mediation proposal put forward by the Central Labor Committee under the South Korean Ministry of Employment and Labor, but the company refused to accept it, resulting in the termination of the mediation procedure.
The union said that during the strike, it will continue to strive for an agreement with management.
On the same day, Samsung Electronics stated in a declaration that the negotiations broke down because the union’s persistent and excessive demands might undermine the company’s fundamental management principles.
Previously, the labor and management of Samsung Electronics held multiple rounds of negotiations over the 2026 salary issue, but their differences over some topics continued to widen, and talks eventually broke down.
