(Kuching, 5th) A fire recently broke out at a tire factory located on Jalan Indah Ria, 9th Mile, with the blaze lasting a full week before it was completely extinguished. Subsequent investigations found that the factory had been conducting storage operations without a valid license.
According to TVS, Sarawak Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) assistant enforcement officer Dau Utau stated that the authorities will launch an investigation to determine the violations related to the factory operating storage activities without a permit. Once the investigation is completed, action will be taken against the owner.
“The factory never submitted any application for use as a storage facility, nor did we receive any information about the factory from the public or other units. Therefore, prior to the incident, we were not aware of the operations of this factory,” he told the media yesterday at the scene of the fire on Jalan Indah Ria, 9th Mile.
Meanwhile, regarding the fire incident, Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) has assured the public that every effort will be made to ensure that the 9th Mile tire plant fire does not impact the health or environmental hygiene of nearby residents, and warned that if the factory owner does not cooperate, strict action will be taken by the council.
Deputy Chairman Daily Joseph stated that the council has been working with the Ministry of Health to continuously monitor the fire-affected area and will continue enforcement to safeguard public welfare.
