KUCHING, Nov 5: A 61-year-old man was found dead at Sungai Temenggong in Matang yesterday.
According to a Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) report, a call was received at 5.45pm yesterday, and firefighters from the Petra Jaya station were deployed.
The victim’s son stated that the victim, identified as Zailani Jenis, had failed to return home since 3am after going out to set nets at Sungai Temenggong. When he went to search for the victim, he only found his boat at around 4pm.
After obtaining information and verifying the matter, firefighters advised the victim’s family to lodge a police report.
The report also stated that the operation could not proceed due to unfavourable weather conditions and limited visibility as night fell.
At around 9.10pm, the Petra Jaya station received a call from the police informing them that villagers had found the victim’s body while fishing.
The victim’s body was transported to the jetty and then handed over to the police for further action.
