NBC News on the 16th cited informed sources reporting that the U.S. government is drafting a plan to permanently relocate up to 1 million Palestinians from Gaza to Libya.
The report states that, according to two people directly familiar with the situation and a former U.S. official, the Trump administration is seriously considering the plan and has discussed it with the Libyan leadership.
The report indicates that, as a condition for the relocation of Palestinians, the U.S. may release billions of dollars in funds that have been frozen for over a decade by the United States.
Meanwhile, The New York Times also reported that the U.S. and Libya have not reached a final agreement, and relevant details remain unclear, with Israel being aware of the Trump administration's discussions.
Before the news broke, the U.S. State Department and the National Security Council did not respond to multiple requests for comment from the media. After the NBC report, a spokesperson told NBC that the reports were not true.
The spokesperson noted that the situation on the ground does not support such a plan, the U.S. government has never discussed such a plan, and it fundamentally does not make sense.
