KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (Bernama) – The Ministry of Finance’s Social Impact Matching Grant allocated RM108 million to fund 108 programmes in 2025, benefiting 441,003 recipients nationwide, according to the GEAR-uP Progress Report released by the Ministry of Economy.
The report said the initiative was implemented through a government matching fund mechanism involving foundations within the ecosystem of government-linked investment companies (GLICs) and government-linked companies (GLCs) to expand the impact of community development programmes.
“The Ministry of Finance matches every ringgit contributed by foundations, up to RM100 million,” it said.
Funded programmes cover various areas, including autism learning support, the provision of clean water supply and solar energy, preservation of heritage crafts, mangrove nursery projects and tuition programmes under Sekolah Angkat MADANI.
The implementation of Sekolah Angkat MADANI and Santuni MADANI was expanded in 2025, involving 373 schools and 26 villages, bringing the total number of communities benefiting directly to 399.
The GLIC and GLC ecosystem also serves as the backbone for the implementation of Sekolah Angkat MADANI and Santuni MADANI programmes in empowering community development.
The education sector received the largest allocation at RM159 million through 212 programmes, followed by economic empowerment, health and community development.
Overall, GLICs and GLCs spent RM641 million to implement more than 775 community development programmes in 2025, benefiting 5.1 million recipients, up from RM534 million in the previous year.
