US Southern Command announced on the 16th that to strengthen anti-drug operations, a US aircraft carrier has been deployed to the Caribbean Sea. Meanwhile, US forces have also attacked another ship suspected of drug trafficking in the Eastern Pacific.
The US Southern Command, which is responsible for Latin America and the Caribbean region, said that the Ford Carrier Strike Group has entered the Caribbean Sea. This move is in accordance with President Trump’s directive to 'dismantle transnational criminal organizations and combat narco-terrorism to defend the US homeland.'
This strike group will join several warships already deployed in the Caribbean. The deployment operation is called 'Operation Southern Spear.'
US Southern Command pointed out that during the execution of this operation, authorities carried out a strike in the Eastern Pacific, killing three drug traffickers.
Since the launch of anti-drug smuggling military operations in September, US forces have killed at least 83 people accused of drug trafficking in international waters.
