(Kuching, 27th) As Sarawak accelerates its advancement of renewable energy development, the state government is actively seeking partnerships with Japanese technology suppliers who possess advanced renewable energy solutions.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari stated at the "2025 Yamada International Renewable Energy Investment Forum" press conference that Sarawak is rich in resources and is building the state's green economy through hydropower, solar, biomass, and hydrogen energy projects.
He said Sarawak is also exploring the potential of developing fusion energy based on hydrogen atoms.
"Sarawak is fortunate; we have resources, but we still need technology suppliers," Abang Johari said at the forum press conference held here yesterday.
He hopes that through this forum, more Japanese companies can be attracted to explore cooperation opportunities with Sarawak, enabling Sarawak to produce renewable energy at an affordable cost and to share the benefits of energy at least within the ASEAN region.
"External parties (from other countries) are confident and interested in cooperating with us to produce renewable energy, and Sarawak has also been recognized through the 'ASEAN Power Grid' as one of the sources of renewable energy in the ASEAN region," he added.
The forum included a keynote speech by the Sarawak Premier, panel discussions, and networking activities with key representatives from the Sarawak government, international investment institutions, and technology developers. Several major Japanese corporations also sent representatives to attend, including Sumitomo Heavy Industries (Mitsui Sumitomo Heavy Industries), Mitsubishi Corporation, and others.
Attendees at the forum also included Sarawak Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni, and Go Sakano, Managing Director for ASEAN and India Markets at Yamada Consulting & Spire.
