Four-Nation Mekong Joint Patrol: United in Combating Drugs and Transnational Crime

(Naypyidaw, 11th, Comprehensive News) The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar announced that the 166th joint law enforcement patrol on the Mekong River, jointly carried out by China, Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand, has been successfully completed. The four countries will continue to deepen cooperation, jointly combat transnational crime, and maintain the security and stability of the river basin.

This joint patrol lasted for 12 days, focusing on combating drug-related crimes, as well as strengthening the crackdown on cross-border telecom fraud, online gambling, illegal border gambling, counterfeiting currency, and human trafficking.

With the theme “No Borders in the Fight Against Drugs, Joining Hands to Eradicate Harm,” the operation deployed a total of 6 law enforcement vessels and 106 officers from the four countries to participate in the patrol.

During the operation, the four countries also held a multilateral intelligence exchange meeting in Houayxay, Laos, reaching several consensuses on further strengthening law enforcement cooperation.

In addition, China, Laos, and Myanmar conducted joint practical training exercises, improving law enforcement officers’ abilities to coordinate operations and respond to transnational crime.

The four countries stated that they will continue to strengthen information sharing, joint patrols, and law enforcement cooperation, joining hands to fight against various transnational criminal activities along the Mekong River, and safeguard regional security and stability.
