The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture pointed out that Malaysia and Korea have signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of tourism, which will benefit the tourism industry of both countries in the long term.

The tourism ministry stated in a press release that the memorandum aims to promote cultural exchange, the number of tourists, tourism revenue, and create economic opportunities.

The memorandum of understanding also aims to promote closer tourism cooperation between the two countries.

“It articulates the mutual commitment of both parties to enhance understanding, exchange, and cooperation in various fields of tourism.”

“The memorandum emphasizes tourism promotion and marketing, capacity building, sharing of tourism information and best practices; strengthening business tourism (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions, MICE), and the development of community tourism and eco-tourism.”

The memorandum was signed by Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing at the 2025 ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) held last night, while the Korean representative was Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Yoo In-chon.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah attended the ceremony and presided over the forum’s opening.

The ASEAN Tourism Forum runs from January 15th until tomorrow, aimed at promoting regional tourism products, facilitating knowledge exchange, building networks, and strengthening cooperation with global tourism industry leaders to increase the number of tourists in ASEAN.

This is the second time Malaysia is hosting the ASEAN Tourism Forum, with the first forum held in Kuching, Sarawak, in 2014.

Malaysia holds the ASEAN rotating chairmanship this year, making this event particularly significant.
