Communications Minister Fahmi pointed out that the focus of 5G network services is not only achieving 100% coverage but also concentrating on areas that can bring maximum benefits, such as industrial areas.
He stated that the department has currently identified over 67 industrial areas, which will be prioritized for 5G network implementation.
“This way, micro and SMEs and factories can utilize technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) and big data, which require high-speed and secure internet.”
“Therefore, our next priority is to ensure industries that can benefit the most from the high-speed 5G network can fully utilize it.”
He stated this to reporters after attending a Chinese New Year aid event at Seri Sentosa Garden Morning Market today.
Fahmi mentioned that the implementation of 5G network services will be discussed at the National Digital Economy and Fourth Industrial Revolution Council (MED4IR) meeting held on February 12.
“The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar, and we will discuss matters such as the implementation of 5G networks, whether the first network will be executed by the National Digital Company (DNB) or the second by U Mobile.”
Moreover, Fahmi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bandar Tun Razak, said they have provided New Year assistance to over 700 families to alleviate their burdens and allow them to joyfully celebrate the festival.
In his speech, he also reminded the public, especially the elderly, to be vigilant against possible scams during the festive period.
