(Ukraine, 3rd) The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated that staff at Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) heard explosions in the surrounding area on Saturday (August 2) and witnessed thick smoke rising.
According to a Reuters report, the IAEA said in a statement that an auxiliary facility at the nuclear power plant was attacked that day. This facility is about 1,200 meters from the plant's fence. The IAEA team said that as of Saturday afternoon, smoke could still be clearly seen rising from that direction.
The nuclear plant is currently located on the frontlines of the war zone, and the ongoing situation continues to raise serious international concerns over nuclear safety.
