The path of the total solar eclipse began in the northernmost part of Siberia, Russia, quickly veering toward the Arctic Ocean, reaching Iceland at dusk, and then moving southward.

Around 20:30 local time in Spain, the sun, moon, and earth were perfectly aligned, resulting in a total solar eclipse.

Chilean scientist Catricheo traveled thousands of miles to participate in this grand event in A Coruña in northwest Spain.

She said: “When totality arrived, everyone cheered together, sharing the excitement of what they saw. The sensation is truly indescribable. The universe is so amazing.”

Following the eclipse’s path, residents along Spain enjoyed this rare celestial event, with the sun’s corona appearing around the moon—a truly dazzling scene.

The total eclipse lasted less than 2 minutes, but for many, it left an indelible memory. Although the spectacular phase of totality was brief, the partial eclipse process before and after the event lasted for about 2 hours.

In any case, from the UK, the sun, moon, and earth were not in perfect alignment, so for British observers, only a partial solar eclipse was seen. In most parts of the UK, about 90% of the sun was covered by the moon, making this the most spectacular solar eclipse across the country since 1999.

Other places that observed a partial solar eclipse included France, Canada, northwestern Africa, and some regions of the United States.

The Next 2 Years Will Witness a “Golden Age” of Total Solar Eclipses

Astronomy enthusiasts in pursuit of solar eclipses will be able to see three total solar eclipses around the globe.

According to Forbes, the event on the 12th is the first chapter of a “trilogy”. The grand second chapter will take place on August 2, 2027, featuring the so-called “eclipse of the century,” with the phase of totality lasting up to 6 minutes and 23 seconds—making it the longest total solar eclipse visible on land between 1991 and 2114.

The finale of the trilogy will unfold on July 22, 2028, when the shadow of totality will sweep across Australia and New Zealand. Sydney will witness its first total solar eclipse since 1857, while Western Australia will offer more than five minutes of totality.
