Colombian President Petro stated on social media on the 5th that in the face of U.S. President Trump’s 'illegal threats,' he will 'once again take up those weapons that people are reluctant to use.'
Petro said he would verify the true meaning behind Trump’s remarks and respond accordingly.
He pointed out that he has called on the people to defend the president and to resist any illegal acts of violence against him.
He stated that he has issued orders to all Colombian military personnel that any commander loyal to a foreign power rather than Colombia must resign immediately.
Recently, the U.S. government has continued to pressure many Latin American countries in the name of 'anti-drug' and 'security,' with Trump repeatedly singling out Petro over drug enforcement issues. On the 4th, Trump issued threats against Petro and said that launching action against Colombia 'sounds good.'
