Venezuelan Acting President Rodriguez was sworn in as interim president on the afternoon of the 5th at the country’s National Assembly.
Rodriguez took the oath, saying: “I come here with a heavy heart, but I must also say, I come with a sense of honor. In the name of all the Venezuelan people, in the name of our liberator Bolívar... I swear on my honor that I will do my utmost until Venezuela is restored to the hall of glory.”
On the 3rd, the United States launched a large-scale military operation against Venezuela, raiding the capital Caracas and other locations, forcibly detaining Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife and taking them to the United States. On the same day, the Venezuelan Supreme Court appointed then Vice President Rodriguez as acting president.
