Jackson Yee Becomes the Youngest Golden Rooster Best Actor, Personally Expresses: Grateful for 12 Years of Opportunity

The 38th China Golden Rooster Film Awards ceremony was held on the evening of the 15th in Xiamen, Fujian. The biggest highlight of this year falls on the Best Actor and Actress awards. 24-year-old Jackson Yee won Best Actor for the film "A Little Me," not only succeeding in his first coronation, but also breaking the record set in 2004 by Liu Ye, who became the youngest Best Actor at 26, thus becoming the youngest Best Actor in the history of the Golden Rooster Awards. The Best Actress award went to Song Jia, who won for the second time with "Good Stuff."

Jackson Yee has now been nominated for the Golden Rooster Awards four times. This year, he played a patient with cerebral palsy in "A Little Me," impressing the judges with a delicate and moving performance. In his speech on stage, he said that the "A Little Me" crew was small in scale and like a family, overcoming many difficulties together, so it was especially meaningful to win with this work. He looked back on being selected for the entertainment industry at age 12, and now it has been exactly 12 years. He expressed gratitude for all the opportunities along this journey and hopes to give back to the audience with more works in the future. He also called on viewers to support his new drama.

The 45-year-old acclaimed actress Song Jia took home the Best Actress award for "Good Stuff." This is her second Golden Rooster Best Actress, her first win dating back to 2012. Song Jia was emotional in her acceptance speech, stressing that the award belonged to the entire crew: “An actor is always part of an ensemble, not a solo act.” She named each co-actor, thanking them for their support during the filming, which moved many film mates in the audience to tears.

In the Best Supporting Actress category, the widely acclaimed Kara Wai was nominated for "Queen of Dumplings," but the rising star Zhong Chuxi from "Good Stuff" unexpectedly won, stunning many. At the moment the result was announced, Zhong Chuxi was moved to tears and admitted that she had doubted herself countless times until she encountered this film: “It taught me that there are no judges in life, and we are not superheroes. We make mistakes and are vulnerable and incapable at times, but we need to stay honest and brave!” She also remembered to thank Song Jia, who was sitting in the audience, and Song Jia immediately gave her a thumbs up—an affectionate scene.

Hong Kong actor Ben Yuen won Best Supporting Actor for "Queen of Dumplings," defeating rival Zhao Youting from "Good Stuff," making him the first actor in Chinese-language cinema to achieve the 'Triple Gold Grand Slam' in supporting acting. After taking the stage, he appeared astonished and then emotionally said, “I’m 61 now, never expected to feel this excited, sorry! Thank you to the judges. 'Sugar Water Uncle' (my role) is all about helping others, and that belief moved me. I strive to do my best in every role. This award is not only recognition for Sugar Water Uncle, but also affirmation and encouragement for me. Thanks to the entire cast and crew of 'Queen of Dumplings,' including Teacher Kara Wai. I hope to continue portraying every moving story with all you artists.”

The Taiwanese artists who attended that night included Ariel Lin, Wu Kang-jen, Alyssa Chia, and others. Particularly noteworthy was Alyssa Chia, who, despite her husband Hsiu Chieh-kai recently being prosecuted for 2 years and 8 months over a draft dodging incident, made no mention of it at the event and walked the red carpet as usual arm-in-arm with Chinese actor Huang Jue.
