(Miri, 12th July) Sarawak Minister of Transport and State Assemblyman for N.75 Senadin, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, led the “Service to the Community Mobile Service 2U” mobile service team this morning to several food courts in the Riam area for routine community outreach, engaging closely with hawkers and the public, listening to public concerns, and promoting anti-smoking awareness.
This outreach activity was personally led by Lee Kim Shin, accompanied by City Councillor Dato Victor Lau Sie Nguong, City Councillor William Sim, Kapitan Jee Kee Hiong, SUPP Senadin Branch Secretary Jeffery Phang Siaw Foong, as well as SUPP Riam Sub-Branch Chairman and SUPP Senadin Branch Deputy Chairman Kueh Chie Tiong, among other local leaders.
During the walkabout, the team proactively engaged with hawkers and diners to gain insights into public opinions and needs regarding infrastructure, safety, and public services. The issues raised have been recorded and will be followed up by city councillors.

In addition, this activity was jointly organized with the Miri Divisional Health Office to conduct a public health awareness campaign by displaying “No Smoking” posters at multiple food courts in response to complaints from the public about people smoking in no-smoking zones.
According to Health Department officials, more than 1,000 fines have been issued so far in Miri city for violations of no-smoking regulations. Under the Public Health Act 2024, first-time offenders are fined RM250, and if convicted in court, the fine can rise as high as RM5,000.
On the day, two enforcement officers from the Health Department joined the team to put up the no-smoking posters. These posters were donated by the Senadin Service Centre, aiming to strengthen public awareness and compliance with no-smoking zone regulations and create a healthier dining and public environment.
Lee Kim Shin pointed out that promoting a non-smoking culture is an important step towards improving the overall health environment of society. He hopes this kind of community advocacy will continue to raise public health awareness and enhance the culture of law compliance, making society better.
He also stated that the service team will continue to visit communities every week to collect feedback and solve problems, so that the public can truly feel the care and effectiveness of “service by your side.”
