Russia has launched the largest aerial assault since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, carrying out massive airstrikes over a period of two days. Hundreds of drones and multiple missiles were deployed in intensive bombings targeting the capital Kyiv and across Ukraine, resulting in heavy civilian casualties and severe damage to infrastructure.
Ukrainian President Zelensky stated on the 14th that since the early hours of the 13th, Russian forces have launched 1,567 drones. In attacks from the night of the 13th to the early morning of the 14th alone, more than 670 attack drones and 56 missiles were used, with Kyiv as the main target. Air defense forces shot down 41 of those missiles and 652 drones.
He said, “This is absolutely not the action of those who think the war is about to end.”
Zelensky pointed out that 180 facilities across the country were damaged, including more than 50 residential buildings. Over 1,500 rescue workers have been deployed nationwide to carry out post-attack operations, with nearly 600 rescue personnel in Kyiv alone.
Two days of airstrikes have left at least 27 civilian dead, including 21 in Kyiv—three of whom were children. Kyiv's mayor, Klitschko, announced the 15th as a day of mourning for the city.
A nine-story residential building in Kyiv collapsed after being hit. Rescue personnel have been conducting search and rescue operations around the clock in the rubble.
