(Bandar Seri Begawan, 7th) The Brunei Fuzhou Ten Counties Association yesterday hosted a group of 13 visiting fellows from Minqing, Fuzhou, China at the Fuzhou Building clubhouse. Both sides had a warm exchange, sharing their sense of hometown connection and further understanding the development and organizational progress of Fuzhou compatriots in Brunei.
Attendees included President Dr. Liu Shiquan, Secretary-General Liu Kunzhang, Women's Group Leader Fang Xiufei, Cheng Meimei, Chen Yana and others.
The delegation was led by Xu Xin, Vice President of the Brunei Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Association, who visited the Fuzhou Ten Counties Association.
President Dr. Liu Shiquan introduced the brief history and development journey of the Brunei Fuzhou Ten Counties Association.
The Brunei Fuzhou Ten Counties Association was officially established on August 1, 2012, on the initiative of the late Tan Sri Datuk Liu Xianwei, former president of the World Fuzhou Ten Counties Federation, and was jointly founded by Chen Jiaxing, Dr. Liu Shiquan, Liu Kunzhang, and other like-minded fellow-townsmen. The association is a community organization composed of people and descendants with ancestral roots in the ten county regions of Fuzhou, Fujian, China, and currently has more than 400 registered members.
The Association always adheres to the aim of "uniting fellow countrymen, serving the community, inheriting culture, and promoting development." It is not only a platform for connecting emotions among compatriots and providing mutual assistance, but also an important hub rooted in Brunei society, actively integrating and giving back locally, while striving to maintain and pass on traditional Chinese culture, especially the regional culture of Fuzhou.
After years of diligent efforts, the magnificent Fuzhou Building now stands on Baraka Hill and was inaugurated on September 14, 2019. The multipurpose hall on the second floor, donated by Chen Jiaxing and spouse, can accommodate nearly 1,200 people. The Association consists of an advisory group, board of directors, women's group, and youth group, forming a team of over one hundred members.
In social services, the Association organizes an annual blood donation event, having donated more than 1,500 bags of blood to date. Since 2014, it has actively contributed to the Crown Prince Orphan’s Fund, jointly donating with Fuzhou businesses and friendly individuals for a total exceeding 700,000 Brunei dollars over the years, and has also supported the Children’s Cancer Fund, disaster relief, and Chinese school operations. The Association is affiliated with the World Fuzhou Ten Counties Federation, actively participates in international exchanges, and is committed to promoting Sino-Brunei economic and trade cooperation as well as cultural heritage.
Afterwards, a group toured the Fuzhou Building and then enjoyed Fuzhou-style refreshments at the Fuzhou Restaurant.
