Top 30 Finalists Announced: Serving the People Is Life's Highest Calling

(Miri, 17th) JCI Malaysia National President Chan Weijian pointed out that the “Malaysia Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award” (JCI TOYM) is not only a platform to acknowledge youth achievements, but also an affirmation for young people who dare to break through themselves and actively contribute to society and the nation.
He said, the Outstanding Young Person Award symbolizes the courage, perseverance, and innovative spirit that youth have demonstrated in fields such as science, education, entrepreneurship, arts, and public service, and further embodies the belief that "Serving the people is the most noble undertaking in life."
Chan Weijian made these remarks during his speech at the “2025 Malaysia Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award Top 30 Finalists Unveiling Dinner” held last night by JCI Miri at the Eastwood Golf Club Banquet Hall in Miri.
He pointed out that this year’s Outstanding Young Person Award welcomed enthusiastic nominations from across the country, with candidates coming from diverse fields and backgrounds, each nominee possessing an inspiring story worth passing down. The top 30 finalists are exemplary models for youth, demonstrating that background is never a hindrance but instead a driving force for positive social change.

He also thanked Organising Committee Chairperson Yang Junting, JCI Miri President Yong Jun Neng, and all team members who worked hard to ensure the successful organisation of the Outstanding Young Person Award. At the same time, he especially thanked the Guest of Honor, Sarawak Transport Minister and 1986 Outstanding Young Person Award recipient Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, for his longstanding support and encouragement of the Sarawak JCI movement, allowing JCI Miri to have the confidence to host this national event for the first time.
"2025 is the 33rd edition of the Outstanding Young Person Award. To sustain a programme for more than 30 years is no easy feat, but JCI has always upheld the belief that 'the greatest wealth of mankind is character, and serving the people is the highest calling in life'—never for profit."
He also revealed that through years of hard work, the Outstanding Young Person Award has achieved remarkable results, with 16 Malaysian youths selected for the “JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World” Award (JCI TOYP) over the past 30 years. This year brought even more good news, as two of the 2024 Outstanding Young Person Award recipients, Kent Ng Kun Kwun and Jason Teo Giin Liang, both made it into the top 20 finalists for the 2025 World Outstanding Young Persons Award.
"I urge everyone nationwide to log on to www.toyp.jci.cc to vote for them before August 22, and to read the stories of them and the other top 20 finalists, witnessing their influence on the global stage."
He emphasized that the Outstanding Young Person Award and the World Outstanding Young Persons Award are not just recognitions, but also catalysts sparking a chain effect of youth actively affecting positive social change.
Chan Weijian extended his warmest congratulations to the top 30 finalists, wishing that their journey would inspire more Malaysian youths to bravely pursue their dreams, take action, and create meaningful impact.
