65-year-old Mao Shun-yin recently promoted the stage play "Determined Till The End," and in an interview on veteran journalist Jin Cheng's YouTube channel "Uncle's Love," she rarely shared the reason behind her breakup with the late superstar Leslie Cheung.
On the show, Mao Shun-yin recalled that her connection with Leslie Cheung began with an anthology drama at a local TV station. To create an on-screen couple effect, the station arranged for the two to develop feelings for each other. She said, "Leslie Cheung was truly committed. Not only did he take the initiative to hold my hand, but he also seriously proposed marriage and even introduced me to his family." Mao Shun-yin said she felt that this relationship was genuine at the time.
As for why the two ultimately did not end up together, Mao Shun-yin confessed in the interview that the key reason was her young age at the time. She felt at a loss when faced with Leslie Cheung's seriousness and passionate proposal. In fact, Mao Shun-yin and Leslie Cheung's romance only lasted a very short period. Years later, the two became good friends, even playing mahjong together in private. Leslie Cheung once joked that his overly hasty marriage proposal back then "scared away" Mao Shun-yin.
