Two Years in Hell! Exposing the Dark Side of a Telecom Scam Syndicate, 39-Year-Old Local "Informer" Returns Home After Losing a Toe!
A 39-year-old man was deceived by an advertisement promising "cross-border cargo delivery" opportunities, only to fall into the hands of a telecom scam syndicate in Myanmar. He was transferred between two parks for a total of two years, during which time he suffered repeated beatings for failing to meet performance targets. His toe was severely injured and infected, eventually requiring amputation. Later, he secretly acted as an "informer" to reveal the park's dark secrets, and as a result, suffered brutal torture and retaliation: he was beaten until he vomited blood and nearly lost vision in his right eye — a horrifying ordeal.
This ethnic Chinese man from Sarawak was finally able to return safely to KLIA Terminal 1 during the Lunar New Year period after his family sought help from the Malaysian Humanitarian Organization (MHO). His nightmare ended as he emerged from the airport's immigration section at around midnight on Friday. He was met by the organization's Secretary-General Dato' Hisham and the Chinese community public relations representative Hu Jieliang. There he recounted his two years of inhuman suffering.

During training, because he failed to meet his targets within a week or two, his hands were cuffed behind his back and he was forced to stand. If he bent slightly, he would be beaten, even forced to urinate in public for humiliation. Three days later, he was forced back to work. He once planned an escape with three other Chinese victims, but after climbing over a barbed wire fence, they were blocked by more than a dozen security guards. He was then locked up in a "small dark room", his head wrapped in a plastic bag until he nearly suffocated, and was beaten with sticks, resulting in serious toe injuries.
The victim said that after being detained for three days, he was released but ordered to walk barefoot in the rain back to the office to resume work. His wounds worsened and became infected. He was then forced to wear only his underwear and, injured, was paraded in front of more than 200 people as a warning to others.

He recalled that after his wounds rotted, a "doctor" arranged by the security guards cut away dead tissue with scissors without anesthesia. When the bacterial infection got worse and even maggots started to appear, the wound was handled perfunctorily. In the end, his fourth toe had to be amputated due to serious infection. He said he could even hear the sound of his bone being cut, causing him unbearable pain.
According to the victim, he was transferred in September 2024 to a new base "Qingsong Park" in the Myawaddy area of Karen State. He and another victim, Ms. Lai, who has also returned to Malaysia, secretly collected evidence and frequently reported the circumstances to Hu Jieliang. After media reports in China drew attention to the case, the park manager identified him via CCTV footage. On the 12th of this month, he was taken away and severely beaten, resulting in grievous injuries to his right eye, nearly blinding him, and causing him to vomit blood and collapse. Both property management and the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) personnel also repeatedly subjected him to violent acts.
Afterwards, he was held in solitary confinement for 10 days, receiving only 10 anti-inflammatory pills. Last Saturday (the 21st), the park, under public pressure, decided to release him. He was then taken to the nearby DKBA office to sign what resembled a resignation document and later arranged to be smuggled across the river into Thailand. After a short rest at a hotel in Mae Sot, he was sent to Bangkok the next day.
He completed his consular procedures on Monday (the 23rd) and, with MHO's assistance, successfully returned to Malaysia. According to him, the park had previously released 10 Malaysians, with 9 still under investigation in Thailand.
He said that during his captivity, a ransom of over RM30,000 was demanded in exchange for his freedom. However, because his family was not well-off and he feared being scammed again, he refused. It was only thanks to his family contacting MHO early and successful coordination that he was released relatively quickly.
