The eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand, Princess Bajrakitiyabha, has passed away.
According to an announcement released by the Thai Royal Household Bureau on the 12th, the princess died of illness on the 11th at the age of 47.
In December 2022, Bajrakitiyabha suddenly collapsed due to a heart problem while walking her dog, and has since been in a long-term coma, receiving treatment in the hospital.
On May 21, the Bureau of the Royal Household issued a statement saying Princess Bajrakitiyabha had developed a severe infection, her condition continued to worsen, and several major organ systems had been damaged. This was the seventh statement issued by the royal family regarding her condition, with the previous one released last September.
The 73-year-old King Vajiralongkorn has seven children, and Bajrakitiyabha is the only daughter from his first marriage.
Bajrakitiyabha was a professionally trained legal scholar, holding a Master’s and Doctoral degree in Law from Cornell University in the United States. After graduation, she briefly worked at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations in New York, before returning to Thailand to serve in prosecutor’s offices in Bangkok and other provinces.
