Strategic Sarawak-MAF cooperation strengthened border security and development

KUCHING: Strategic cooperation between the Sarawak Government and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) continues to be strengthened to ensure the state’s border security remains intact while facilitating comprehensive development along the border.

This commitment was reaffirmed during a courtesy visit by the Commander of the 1st Infantry Division of the Malaysian Army, Major General Mohd Sobirin Mohd Yusof, to the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at his office in the Satria Pertiwi Complex today.

The visit served as a platform to further strengthen relations between the Headquarters of the 1st Infantry Division and the Sarawak Government, while facilitating discussions on matters concerning security and the state’s development agenda.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the current security landscape in Sarawak, particularly the status of border control operations, to ensure the state continues to enjoy a safe, stable and secure environment.

Discussions also focused on identifying more effective and coordinated measures to enhance security monitoring and enforcement along Sarawak’s borders in response to evolving security challenges.

The meeting further explored strategic collaboration between the 1st Infantry Division and the Sarawak Government in developing infrastructure in border areas, aimed at boosting operational readiness while contributing to the socio-economic well-being of local communities.

Sobirin also conveyed his appreciation to the Sarawak Government and relevant agencies for their unwavering support and cooperation, which have enabled the division to effectively carry out its role in safeguarding the state’s security.

He emphasised that the strong partnership between the state government and security forces remains crucial in preserving peace and stability, as well as driving the continued development of border regions.
