(Bandar Seri Begawan, 8th) Minister of Home Affairs Dato Awang Abdul Mutalib revealed that from 2010 to July 2025, a total of 17,068 Brunei citizenship applications were received under Chapter 15 of the Brunei Nationality Act, with 12,200 individuals successfully granted Brunei citizenship.
He disclosed these figures during the second session of the 21st Legislative Council meeting, stating that between 2020 and July 2025, a total of 1,454 stateless persons and foreign nationals were granted Brunei permanent resident status.
The Minister added that the 2024 Brunei permanent resident application guidelines have been updated, including adjustments to marriage duration and age restrictions, revisions to the eligibility criteria for Bruneian parents' children and adopted children, as well as limitations on the number and gender of adopted children who can apply.
