(Bandar Seri Begawan, 13th) Jointly organized by the Brunei Fuzhou Association of Ten Counties and the Kuala Belait Fuzhou Association, and co-organized by eight Bruneian Chinese schools, the "8th (2026) Brunei National Primary School On-site Chinese Creative Writing Competition" was held simultaneously at six schools in Brunei on June 12 (Friday). This year's event received an enthusiastic response, attracting a total of 347 students to register and participate.
This annual Chinese creative writing event aims to inspire primary students’ interest in Chinese writing, enhance their language application abilities, and discover writing talents through on-site composition. The co-organizers include Bandar Seri Begawan Chung Hwa School, Seria Chung Ching Middle School, Kuala Belait Chung Hwa Middle School, Tutong Chung Hwa School, Kuala Tutong Chung Hwa School, Temburong Pei Yue School, Sungai Liang Chung Ling School, and Labi Chung Hwa School.
Winners from this competition will qualify to participate in the "17th (2026) Singapore-Malaysia-Brunei Primary School On-site Chinese Creative Writing Elite Competition," competing alongside talented young writers from Singapore and Malaysia.
According to figures released by the organizers, out of 347 participants, 212 were ethnic Chinese students while 135 were non-Chinese students—making up nearly 40%. This fully demonstrates the positive atmosphere of multicultural participation in Chinese language learning in Brunei.
The competition was held simultaneously at six venues: Bandar Seri Begawan Chung Hwa School, Seria Chung Ching Middle School, Kuala Belait Chung Hwa Middle School, Tutong Chung Hwa School, Kuala Tutong Chung Hwa School, and Temburong Pei Yue School, making it convenient for students from different regions to participate close to home.

Organizing committee chairman Lim Bin Li stated that this year’s number of participants has remained stable, with non-Chinese students making up close to 40%, showing the continued importance of Chinese creative writing among various ethnic groups in Brunei.
He said the competition was conducted using on-site prompts and timed writing. Judging is based on content, structure, creativity, and language expression. The list of winners in each group will be published in this newspaper after the competition.
The Brunei Fuzhou Association of Ten Counties and the Kuala Belait Fuzhou Association expressed their thanks to all the co-organizing Chinese schools for their full support and encouraged all participating students to stay composed and perform at their best writing level.
The organizers also hope that through the competition, they can further promote the development of Chinese education in Brunei and strengthen cultural and academic exchanges among Brunei, Singapore, and Malaysia.
