Through a public announcement, PowerChina stated that it attaches great importance to issues raised by the media regarding quality problems during the construction of the Yong'an Pumped Storage Power Station in Fujian. An investigation team has been formed and will cooperate with relevant parties to conduct a comprehensive investigation and verification, and to handle the matter in accordance with laws and regulations.

The report states that, according to on-site information, hundreds of anchor piles used to reinforce the abutment slope rock and soil bodies have major quality defects: the actual construction length has been significantly reduced, with some piles even less than one third of the designed standard. More seriously, most of the anchor piles were not injected with cement mortar as required by the specifications; the construction party only performed simple grouting at the pile hole entrance to cope with inspections.
Relevant experts pointed out that the lower reservoir dam is a key structure of the Yong'an pumped storage power station, and its quality is directly related to the safe operation of the power station. Cutting corners during construction may threaten the overall safety of the dam.
