After the major fire accident at Hong Kong’s Tai Po Wang Fuk Court, all parties have been making every effort to support resettlement and disaster relief. The People's Bank of China (PBOC) has opened a green channel for cross-border RMB donations to support Hong Kong disaster relief.
According to China Central Television (CCTV), the Macro-Prudential Management Bureau of the People's Bank of China has issued a notice stating that, in order to fully cooperate in the search and rescue, medical treatment, and post-disaster comfort for the victims of the Tai Po fire, and to ensure zero-delay arrival of domestic donation funds, the PBOC supports commercial banks in establishing a green channel for cross-border RMB donations.
The central bank stated that commercial banks are not required to review supporting documents and may directly transfer donation funds to the Tai Po Wang Fuk Court aid fund account based on domestic institutions or individuals’ payment instructions. In addition, they must properly report data to the RCPMIS (Renminbi Cross-Border Payment and Receipt Information Management System) as required.
On Friday, China’s State Council Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office announced that it has coordinated with Guangdong Province to provide assistance and support for the relief efforts of the Wang Fuk Court fire, rapidly mobilizing and collecting necessary rescue equipment, medical supplies, and consumables according to requests from the Hong Kong government. These supplies were delivered to Hong Kong on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
The Macao SAR government has also donated HK$30 million (MYR 15,925,900) to the Hong Kong SAR through the Macao Foundation to support fire relief and subsequent reconstruction work.
