(Kuching, 29th) Produced by the Kuching South City Council and soon to be launched, the Chinese New Year song MV focuses on showcasing the spirit of harmonious unity within Sarawak's diverse cultures.

Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian, expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Kuching South City Council for this project and noted that this New Year song MV reflects Sarawak's unique cultural fusion. This aligns with Sarawak's strategic development plan post-2030 after the pandemic.

“Many Sarawakians and others throughout Malaysia have observed the significant changes in Sarawak over the past decade. The difference between 2014 and 2024 is remarkable. However, as we continue our journey of transformation, the next six years will be crucial, and all Sarawakians must unite to preserve the best aspects of Sarawak—our unity, harmony, and peace.”

He stated that these are the foundations that enable Sarawak to focus on progress, especially in achieving post-2030 pandemic development strategies, the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), and ensuring the reclaiming of autonomy in healthcare and education in the nation-building efforts.

Dr. Sim Kui Hian  made these remarks in an interview with reporters after the recording of the New Year song MV in the Kuching South City Council park.

Meanwhile, Kuching South Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng emphasized that the MV also aims to promote the rich cultural heritage of Padungan, showcasing its historical sites and murals.

“This New Year song MV not only celebrates the festive season but also highlights the cultural and historical significance of the Padungan area, where there are vivid murals and the charm of the old town. We hope this will attract more tourists to explore this city.”

Wee Hong Seng also addressed the recent topic regarding the iconic Great White Cat statue in Padungan, which was seen wearing traditional Chinese attire in a circulating video to match the festive theme.

He explained that since Chinese New Year is approaching, it is no longer appropriate for the Great White Cat statue to wear the previous Christmas outfit.

“We assure the public that we will be mindful of the festival changes and will dress the Great White Cat in themed attire according to the festive occasion. This is part of our efforts to attract more tourists and enhance the city's appeal. We welcome all feedback, especially constructive criticism, as it will help us improve.”
