Water levels recede, 50 remain sheltered in Kampung Sungai Maong

KUCHING: A total of 50 flood victims from 13 families remain temporarily sheltered at Masjid Darul Istiqlaal, Kampung Sungai Maong as monitoring continues across affected areas in Kuching, Bau and Samarahan as of today (Feb 21).

The Civil Defence Force (APM) reported that weather conditions remained rainy in Kuching, but water levels showed a declining trend and roads were still accessible.

Water levels in Kampung Sungai Maong were also reported to be receding and under control.

In Bau, inspections at Kampung Keranji found river levels decreasing, with roads passable to all vehicles.

Four houses were affected at the ground-floor level, and the situation remains under close observation.

At Kampung Skiat Baru, one house and one shop were affected, though road access remains open and no emergency incidents were reported.

Meanwhile in Samarahan, early morning monitoring at Kampung Endap between 2.30 am and 3.31 am found light rain with water levels dropping by about one foot.

APM said the overall situation remains safe and under control, with no evacuation to temporary relief centres required at this time.
