(Bandar Seri Begawan, 3rd) The Board of Directors of Brunei Teng Yun Temple encourages the children of devotees throughout Brunei to strive diligently in their studies and aim for the top, and holds an awards ceremony for academic excellence every year during Chinese New Year. The temple will start accepting applications on January 5, 2026 (Monday), with the application deadline set for February 13, 2026 (Friday). Application forms can be obtained at Teng Yun Temple, Kang Ning Pharmacy, and Huan Photography Studio, but submission of the completed forms is only accepted at Teng Yun Temple. Devotees are kindly requested to submit their applications within the deadline to allow the academic excellence award officers to process the forms smoothly and announce the list of students qualified to receive the awards.
The date of the Spring Festival Gala and the awarding of the academic excellence prizes for devotees’ children will be announced separately.
The application rules and requirements for outstanding children of Brunei local and outstation devotees are as follows:
- Applicants must attach a photocopy of the benevolence receipt issued by Teng Yun Temple during the Guang Ze Zun Wang’s birthday celebration of that year (Lunar calendar: 22nd-24th day of the 8th month), or a copy of that year’s membership oil/incense donation supporter receipt as proof. Otherwise, the application will not be processed.
- The relationship between the applicant and the child of the devotee must be father-son, father-daughter, mother-son, or mother-daughter.
- Submit one recent two-inch color photograph of the applicant. The name must be written on the back of the photo.
- School transcripts and university diplomas should be submitted as photocopies.
Qualification requirements for the Academic Excellence Award are as follows:
- Kindergarten Group: Kindergarten Level 3 (KG3).
- Primary Level Year 1–3: Top 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in class, and an overall average of A1 or above 85 marks.
- Primary Level Year 4–6: Top 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in class, and an overall average of above 80 marks.
- Pass the PSR Primary School Certificate Examination, with at least four As and one B.
- Lower Secondary Education Certificate Examination (SPN): At least five subjects over 80 marks.
- Secondary Examination G.C.E 'O' Level: Pass with distinction, with a total of five subjects not exceeding 15 points.
- G.C.E 'A' Level: Pass and obtain at least two subjects with grade B or above.
- Diploma holders are not eligible to apply.
- University graduates, including Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees, may apply and must provide their graduation certificates.
Qualification requirements for the Special Award are as follows:
- Primary Level Year 1–3: Overall average must reach A1 and A2, or above 85 marks.
- Primary Level Year 4–6: Overall average must reach above 80 marks.
- Year 7 & 8: Average must reach above 75 marks.
- Year 9 & 10: Average must reach above 70 marks.
- PSR Primary Certificate Examination: Pass with three As and two Bs.
- Lower Secondary Education Certificate Examination (SPN): At least three subjects with over 80 marks.
- G.C.E ‘O’ Level: Five subjects must total not more than 18 points.
- Top 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in class.
