Following France and the UK, Canada Will Recognize the State of Palestine in September

On the 30th, Canadian Prime Minister Carney issued a statement saying that Canada has long supported the "two-state solution" and plans to recognize the State of Palestine at the 80th United Nations General Assembly to be held in September.

The statement pointed out that, given the difficulty in maintaining the peace negotiation process between Palestine and Israel and the deepening suffering of civilians, the prospects for a "two-state solution" are worrisome. Canada therefore plans to recognize the State of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly.

The statement said that this decision is based on reforms promised by Palestinian National Authority President Abbas, including thoroughly reforming its governance system, holding elections without the participation of Hamas in 2026, and achieving the demilitarization of the State of Palestine.

The statement also called on Hamas to immediately release all detained persons and demanded that it disarm, and not play any role in the future governance of the State of Palestine.

In recent days, France, the United Kingdom, and several other countries have successively announced that they will recognize the State of Palestine. On the 24th, French President Macron announced that France would officially recognize the State of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly in September.

On the 29th, the British Prime Minister's Office issued a statement saying that if Israel does not take substantive action to end the appalling situation in Gaza and commit to sustainable long-term peace, the United Kingdom will recognize the State of Palestine before the opening of the United Nations General Assembly in September.
