The Vatican Donates $210,000 to Assist in Typhoon Disaster Reconstruction; Taiwan Bishops’ Conference Expresses Heartfelt Thanks

Typhoon Danas severely affected southern and central Taiwan in early July. At that time, Pope Leo XIV prayed for the disaster victims and instructed the Vatican to provide assistance. The Embassy of Taiwan to the Holy See stated that Taiwan has received a donation of US$50,000 (RM211,900) from the Vatican’s Dicastery of Charity. The president of the Taiwan Bishops’ Conference, Bishop Li Kemian, Bishop Pu Yingxiong of Chiayi, and Bishop Huang Minzheng of Tainan all expressed their deep gratitude.

According to Vatican News, Pope Leo XIV, upon learning of Typhoon Danas striking Taiwan and causing casualties and damage, prayed for the affected people and directed the Vatican Dicastery of Charity to “provide concrete assistance to the people.”

The Embassy of Taiwan to the Holy See also posted on social media Facebook at the time: “This is the first time since Pope Leo XIV’s inauguration that he has publicly expressed concern over a natural disaster in Taiwan. We express our deepest gratitude for the Pope’s care. Heartened by the Pope’s encouragement, Taiwan, which was hard hit by Typhoon Danas, will move forward bravely.”

Recently, the Embassy stated on Facebook that Taiwan has received the US$50,000 donation from the Vatican Dicastery of Charity. The Bishops’ Conference president Li Kemian, Bishop Pu Yingxiong of Chiayi, and Bishop Huang Minzheng of Tainan have also expressed thanks.
