Fadhlina: Sitting Together Today, Negotiating with Others Tomorrow—Some Weaken the Stability of the Unity Government

(Kuala Lumpur, 16th) People's Justice Party (PKR) Women's Wing Chief Fadhlina has criticized forces within the Unity Government that are undermining the government's stability.

Fadhlina, during the leadership summary at today’s PKR Congress, said: “We know what is happening around us... Today, they sit together with us; tomorrow, they are negotiating with others. Today, they defend the Madani Government; tomorrow, we hear them criticizing their own colleagues.”

Fadhlina, who is also the Minister of Education, said that the political betrayal experienced by PKR in the past was far worse than the current situation and referred to the 2020 Sheraton Move, during which many PKR MPs either defected or switched sides, causing the fall of the then-Pakatan Harapan government.

Fadhlina stressed that despite the ever-changing political landscape, the real strength of PKR does not depend on who sits at the negotiation table with the party, but comes from the grassroots members.

“The true backbone of PKR is those who keep the grassroots branches running, go door-to-door visiting voters, hang up party flags, and face all kinds of insults and attacks during campaigns, but still continue working the very next day.”

She emphasized that no matter what kind of political maneuvering occurs externally, PKR will face it head-on; no matter what obstacles are set up in front, the party will find a way to overcome them.

Additionally, Fadhlina urged party members to always be prepared and not to wait until Parliament is dissolved to start preparing. This, she said, is because the political landscape changes quickly—including parties that were once with the government choosing to negotiate with other camps.

“We must ensure PKR is ready, no matter who stands by us—we must be strong; no matter who leaves us—we are still strong. We have fighting spirit, our members firmly believe in this struggle... They are willing to knock on every door because they believe this country can change.”

She mentioned that if PKR hopes to attract more women to join the struggle, it cannot rely solely on women as campaign mobilizers but should give them leadership space, entrust them with responsibilities, and involve them in decision-making.

“Because if we want to convince society, especially women, to choose PKR, they too must believe and see that this party truly believes in women's leadership.”
