(Jakarta, 15th) The Speaker of the Indonesian People's Representative Council (DPR), Puan Maharani, has called on the parliaments of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries to firmly reject any proposals regarding the relocation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

She emphasized at the opening ceremony of the 19th Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) conference held in Jakarta on Wednesday: "Such proposals must be unequivocally rejected because Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people."

Puan pointed out that the reconstruction of Gaza requires not only the restoration of buildings and infrastructure but also the rebuilding of dignity, justice, and hope. She stressed that the current victims in the Gaza conflict are mainly civilians, including women and children suffering from hunger, and that hospitals and schools have been severely damaged.

She urged OIC parliaments to push for more countries to officially recognize the State of Palestine and support a peaceful resolution through the 'Two-State Solution'.

"The PUIC represents the shared voice of the people from many countries, who hope for concrete results from this conference that can have a positive impact," Puan stated.

She also urged the governments of OIC member countries to actively promote the recommendations of the PUIC conference and demonstrate the solidarity and unified stance of Muslim countries on the international stage.

The 19th PUIC conference was held from May 12th to 15th in Indonesia's capital, Jakarta, under the theme of "Good Governance and Strong Institutions: Pillars of Resilience".

A day before the conference (Tuesday), Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), Irene Yusiana Roba Putri, stated that the conference would adopt a joint resolution supporting Palestinian peace.

"We unanimously agree to jointly urge the international community to take serious and concrete actions to advance the Palestinian peace process," she said.
