(Jakarta, 15th) Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that in the context of increasingly complex global challenges, the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC) serves as an important platform that helps countries jointly seek ways to address them.
Prabowo made this statement on Wednesday at the 19th PUIC Conference held at the Jakarta Parliament Building. The conference was broadcast live via the official YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat.
He said: "At a time when the trend of global polarization is becoming more apparent, the existence of the PUIC is becoming increasingly important. This alliance of Muslim countries was established from a shared awareness that the Muslim world needs a platform for inter-parliamentary solidarity to address global challenges and defend the interests of Muslims worldwide."
Prabowo highly praised the role of the PUIC and hoped that the organization could serve as a bridge promoting parliamentary diplomacy, strengthening the unity of Muslim countries, advocating for justice, and providing solutions to complex global issues.
He pointed out that cooperation between Muslim country parliaments is a strategic tool for building a more just and peaceful world order.
Prabowo also expressed his pride that Indonesia was hosting the 19th PUIC Conference. He said: "Today, I am facing representatives of one-quarter of the global population, all of whom are delegates from Muslim countries around the world."
This year, the 19th PUIC Conference is hosted by Indonesia, taking place from May 12th to 15th. The theme of this conference is "Good Governance and Strong Institutions: Pillars of Resilience," and it also commemorates the 25th anniversary of the PUIC's establishment.
Approximately 450 representatives from OIC member and observer state parliaments are expected to attend this conference.
