KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will organise four zonal conventions beginning in July to strengthen the party and prepare its machinery for future challenges, including possible elections.
PBB secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the decision was made during the party’s Supreme Council meeting chaired by PBB President Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Nanta said the party conventions will be held from July to August and may continue into September, covering four zones statewide.
He said the southern zone convention will be coordinated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, while the Betong zone convention will be led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
The central zone convention will be coordinated by Nanta himself, while Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan will oversee the northern zone.
He added that the conventions are aimed at gathering grassroots members and strengthening party unity.
“The focus is to strengthen the party and prepare ourselves for anything, including possibly the election,” he said at a press conference at the PBB headquarters here today (May 9).
Nanta said the meeting was attended by members of the party’s Supreme Council, including representatives from the youth and women’s wings.
He added that this was the party’s first meeting this year, with the previous Supreme Council meeting having been held in November 2025.
According to him, a main coordinating committee overseeing all four zonal conventions will be chaired by Uggah.
He said the dates and sequence of the conventions have yet to be finalised pending further discussions.
