(Bandar Seri Begawan, 21st) Brunei's Deputy Permanent Secretary (Transport) at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, Mohd Salihin, stated that over the past five years, Brunei's traffic accident statistics have shown a relatively stable trend. As of June 2025, the number of fatalities from traffic accidents was 12, while as of June 2024, the death toll was 7.
He made this statement at a press conference held yesterday by the National Road Safety Council (MKKJR), noting that from 2022 to 2024, the total number of traffic accidents increased: 1,050 cases in 2022, 1,118 cases in 2023, and 1,163 cases in 2024. In 2020, the recorded total number of traffic accidents was 1,079, while in 2021 it dropped to 1,043.
In terms of road traffic accidents resulting in injuries, there were 341 injuries in 2020, 343 in 2021, 359 in 2022, 364 in 2023, and 359 in 2024.
Meanwhile, for road traffic accidents involving fatalities, statistics show that there were 11 deaths in 2020, 16 in 2021, 18 in 2022, with the number dropping to 14 in 2023, and 13 in 2024.
The press conference held yesterday aimed to raise public awareness on the importance of remaining vigilant and paying attention to the safety of road users.
The press conference also shared statistics on accident rates, causes of accidents, traffic violations, as well as the number of penalized and ticketed vehicles.
This forms part of MKKJR's ongoing efforts to improve road safety in the country.
