(Miri, 25th) The four-day, three-night Provincial Grade (Level 1) Volleyball Referee Course, organized by the Malaysia Volleyball Association, was successfully held from June 19th to 22nd at Pei Min Middle School in Miri. The course injected new blood into the circle of Sarawak volleyball referees and successfully cultivated a batch of prospective referees with professional knowledge and refereeing skills for the volleyball scene in Sarawak.
This course was hosted by the Miri Volleyball Association and strongly supported by the Sarawak Volleyball Association, which specially recommended Sarawak Volleyball Association Referee Director Chai Wei Ming and local Miri national-level referee Lau Kyu Sian as course instructors.
It is worth mentioning that Chai Wei Ming is one of the few international-level referees not only in Sarawak but nationwide. With his rich practical and refereeing experience, he provided the students with professional and practical course content from which they greatly benefited.
It is understood that the participants who signed up for this course were not only former and current volleyball players who are passionate about the sport, but also included school teachers and sports enthusiasts, indicating that volleyball remains popular locally and has a solid grassroots foundation.

“Although we cannot guarantee that all participants will continue down the path of becoming volleyball referees in the future, being able to train a new generation for Sarawak’s volleyball movement through this course is already a rare achievement, contributing our modest efforts to the local volleyball referee system.”
He further stated that as a member of the Volleyball Association, he is gratified that the Miri Volleyball Association is not only committed to cultivating local players and actively participating in inter-district competitions in Sarawak, but is also willing to shoulder the responsibility of promoting the overall development of volleyball by sparing no effort in various promotional and training activities.
“This is not just for Miri volleyball, but for the long-term development of volleyball in Sarawak,” he said.
Lin Sijian also revealed that the Miri Volleyball Association plans to successively organize volleyball coach courses in the future in hopes of further improving the development structure of volleyball in Miri.
“We not only want to cultivate outstanding players but also nurture referees with credibility and a team of coaches with professional coaching abilities, so as to promote comprehensive and synergistic development of Miri volleyball from players, referees to coaches.”
He called on the public and business community to recognize and support the Miri Volleyball Association’s efforts and endeavors. “If there are any companies or volleyball-loving organizations willing to cooperate, you are welcome to contact us at any time to join hands in contributing to the volleyball movement in Miri and Sarawak.”
He said that only with the concerted efforts from all sectors of society can volleyball flourish and continue in Miri and throughout Sarawak.
The closing ceremony for the course was successfully held on the afternoon of the 22nd. Miri Volleyball Association President Lin Sijian served as the guest of honor for the closing ceremony, and, accompanied by Chairman Wen Kaifu, presented graduation certificates to all participants, awarded souvenirs to the lecturers, and also showed sincere appreciation to Pei Min Middle School for providing the venue.
At the closing ceremony, Lin Sijian encouraged the participants to maintain their passion for volleyball and actively participate in competitions and refereeing work, thus helping to enhance the professionalism of volleyball matches in Sarawak and even nationwide.
He emphasized that the Miri Volleyball Association will continue to promote relevant training, referee courses, and coaching seminars in the future, and continue to contribute to the popularization and development of volleyball.
