French President Macron on the 27th expressed his support for Prime Minister Bayrou and called on all major French parties to take responsibility.
He chaired a cabinet ministers’ meeting and conveyed relevant information to the public through government spokesperson Prima.
Prima stated that Macron gives his "full support" to Bayrou’s bid to seek a confidence vote in the National Assembly and supports Bayrou’s efforts to promote a balanced budget.
Prima said that Macron urges France’s major parties to shoulder their responsibilities, and reiterated that the confidence vote is not targeted at the specific measures of the budget plan itself, but hopes to reach agreement on the principle direction of large-scale spending cuts.
French Prime Minister Bayrou recently announced plans to seek a confidence vote in the National Assembly, with the vote scheduled for September 8.
Bayrou admitted that the government currently does not have enough votes in the National Assembly to secure victory in the confidence vote but emphasized that National Assembly deputies must vote based on France’s current economic situation.
He again warned that if the government falls, the country's future will be in jeopardy.
French public opinion is generally not optimistic about the government winning the confidence vote in the National Assembly. Le Parisien’s report on the 27th has already predicted what measures Macron will take in response to the situation if the government falls.
