Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen stated on the 27th that any interference in the internal affairs of the Danish kingdom is "unacceptable."
She made this remark when commenting on Danish media reports regarding secret activities by Americans in Greenland.
During a media interview, she said that there are very clear disagreements between Denmark and the United States on the issue of Greenland.
She emphasized that the Danish government treats this matter "extremely seriously" and does not allow any form of interference. As of now, the US side has yet to explicitly deny the above reports, which is "very serious."
Danish Foreign Ministry Summons US Chargé d’Affaires
Danish Foreign Minister Rasmussen said on the 27th that he has instructed the Foreign Ministry to summon the acting Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Denmark and demand an explanation from the US side regarding its secret activities in Greenland.
On the same day, the US Embassy in Denmark responded by stating that the US government "respects the right of the people of Greenland to decide their own future," and that the actions of certain US citizens are "not under the control of the US government."
According to Danish Broadcasting Corporation, at least three Americans with close ties to President Trump and senior White House officials have recently traveled frequently between the US and Greenland, attempting to promote a distancing between Greenland and Denmark, and strengthening dependence on the US by building private networks, infiltrating local society, and expanding information gathering.
The Danish Security and Intelligence Service told the media that some external forces are trying to exploit existing divisions or create new ones in order to drive a wedge between Greenland and Denmark. The agency is in close communication with the Greenlandic autonomous government, assessing threats and studying countermeasures.
Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark with a high degree of self-government, while defense and foreign affairs are handled by the Danish government. The US currently has a military base in Greenland. Since taking office this year, Trump has repeatedly expressed a desire to acquire Greenland and has stated that he does not rule out the use of force.
