Bus and Fuel Tanker Collision in Indonesia Leaves at Least 16 Dead

On June 6th, a bus and a fuel tanker collided on Indonesia's Sumatra island, resulting in at least 16 deaths and 4 injuries.

The accident occurred at around 12:39 p.m. local time, when a long-distance bus collided head-on with a fuel tanker while traveling in South Sumatra province.

According to the local disaster management agency, 14 passengers from the bus and 2 people from the fuel tanker died. Among the 4 injured, 3 suffered severe burns.

Authorities noted that after the accident, rescue personnel immediately rushed to the scene, and several passengers were temporarily trapped inside the severely damaged bus.

An official, Hasbi, said that preliminary information indicated that one of the bus's tires burst, causing the driver to lose control and crash, which ignited a raging fire. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames. The tanker was carrying diesel at the time.
