The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, believes that Perlis has the capability to rise as the "second Dubai" in the coming years and become a gateway to ASEAN countries.
His Highness pointed out that, with Perlis's strategic geographical location in the north of Peninsular Malaysia, bordering Thailand, the state has the potential to develop into a trade centre, innovation hub, and regional economic exchange center.
"I also hope that, in the next few years, if Dubai can be internationally recognized as the gateway to the Middle East, then I believe Perlis too can emerge as the second Dubai.
"With the strong support of the state government, Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA), the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, and the cooperative movement, I am confident Perlis can grow into a trade center, innovation hub, and regional economic exchange center."
His Highness said this in a speech delivered last night at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Perlis ANGKASA International Bazaar.
Additionally, His Highness mentioned that this event is not only a platform for discussion and exchange of views, but also carries wider significance by gathering participants from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and China.
He said the event received enthusiastic responses not only at the state and national level but also succeeded in attracting attention and participation from the international community, further elevating Perlis’s position as a regional cooperative economic network platform, and earning greater trust and recognition from various countries.
"This is a significant recognition of the state's potential, and I deeply appreciate it."
