Trump Says Strait of Hormuz Will Reopen Soon

U.S. President Trump stated on the 10th that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen soon, with or without Iran’s cooperation, and that the top priority for the American negotiating team is to ensure Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons.

Before boarding his plane at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, he told the media that the agreement to be discussed between the U.S. and Iran will cover navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and he believes this important waterway will resume unimpeded passage soon.

He said: "I think progress will be quite rapid. Even if it isn’t, we will be able to resolve it in some way."

Trump also stated that the Strait of Hormuz is international waters and that Iran will not be allowed to charge passage fees for the Strait of Hormuz.

Regarding the upcoming U.S.-Iran talks, Trump pointed out, "We absolutely will not allow (Iran) to have nuclear weapons. That accounts for 99% of the agreement’s content."

He offered his best wishes to Vice President Vance, who is leading the U.S. negotiating team, and said Vance is facing a major task.

Earlier that day, Trump wrote on social media that, aside from the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has no more bargaining chips.
