TANJUNG MANIS: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will inspect the artificial reef project in Belawai waters tomorrow (Aug 17).
His visit is held in conjunction with the 18th edition of the Tanjung Manis Fishing Safari at the Tanjung Manis Express Terminal.
Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the RM70 million artificial reef project is an ongoing initiative by the Sarawak government to increase fishermen’s catches in the Belawai, Rajang, Jerijih and Tanjung Manis areas.
“It is hoped that the benefits of the project will be enjoyed by the people,” he said.
Len, who is also the Kuala Rajang assemblyman, earlier flagged off the fishing competition, which saw the participation of 146 anglers yesterday (Aug 15).
On the fishing competition, he said the event played a role in promoting the central region as an eco-tourism destination.
“A total of 29 participants took part in the deep sea category, while 117 participated in the coastal sea category.
“Apart from the fishing competition, the event was enlivened with side activities such as cooking competitions, karaoke, and trade fairs,” he said.
