A Malaysia-registered motorcycle approached a traffic light on a Singapore road and stopped at the left front side of a garbage truck. Since that spot was a blind spot for the garbage truck driver, when the light turned green, the starting garbage truck knocked both the rider and his bike onto the ground. Fortunately, as the truck had just begun moving and wasn’t going fast, the rider was able to pick up his motorcycle by himself.
According to video uploaded by Facebook page SGRV, the incident occurred at about 4:29 p.m. on the 16th, at a traffic light on Upper Changi North Road, Singapore. The footage shows several motorcycles and a garbage truck stopping side by side at a red light. However, one Malaysia-registered motorcycle was stopped in the left front of the garbage truck—a location that happens to be in the large vehicle’s blind spot. When the light turned green, the truck driver failed to notice the motorcycle and a collision immediately occurred.
Luckily, the garbage truck was moving slowly as it started, and the driver immediately braked after the collision. Though the rider lost control of his motorcycle—which was knocked repeatedly to the ground—and had trouble standing, he was still able to pick up the motorcycle by himself.

Netizens commented that motorcyclists must avoid stopping in the blind spots of large vehicles. Some Malaysian netizens also noted that it’s indeed common for Malaysian riders to stop in front of vehicles at traffic lights, regardless of whether it’s a large-vehicle blind spot, calling it a bad habit.
