Yang Diantian’s Flaunting of Wealth Draws Out Father’s Corruption Scandal — ‘Reappearance After 3 Months in Hiding’ Faces Online Calls for Boycott

18-year-old actress Huang Yang Diantian, known as the “Little Zhao Liying”, recently rose to fame with her starring role in “Five Blessings Arrive”, but found herself in the midst of a controversy when she was spotted wearing a pair of luxury earrings valued at 2.3 million RMB (about 1.354 million MYR). The incident led to suspicions of corruption against her father, a former civil servant, sparking a major uproar.

In response, the relevant government authorities publicly announced the outcome of their investigation on the 16th. While they clarified the earring incident, they also noted that Huang Yang Diantian’s father was indeed involved in two legal violations. After nearly three months of silence, she was recently spotted returning to a film set, resuming her acting work.

During shooting, Huang Yang Diantian adopted an extremely simple style, not wearing any jewelry and appearing visibly thinner, evidently affected by recent events. Though only 18, she has an eight-year acting career and taken part in several well-known costume dramas, such as playing young Chu Qiao in “Princess Agents”, young Ruyi in “Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace”, and Li Wuniang in “Five Blessings Arrive”. Her latest work is the sequel “Rebirth on Ice Lake” alongside Li Yunrui, continuing the story from “Princess Agents”. Unexpectedly, just as filming for the series was still ongoing, the “sky-high price earring incident” broke out.

The scene of her returning to the set quickly shot up the Weibo trending topics. In the video, she’s seen in a simple white T-shirt and jeans, wearing a baseball cap and mask, with an extremely low-profile overall look. Most notably, her ears are entirely bare, with no accessories at all. Some netizens also noticed she looks much thinner than before, appearing gaunt and haggard. Online responses are highly polarized — some believe her quick comeback shows she has strong backing and vow to “boycott her to the end,” while others sympathize, saying, “There’s no need to keep hounding a young girl like this.”
