Kim Tae-hee in Tears: 'Raising Kids is Harder Than Giving Birth'—Reveals Parenting Differences with Husband Rain

Once hailed as Korea’s most beautiful woman, actress Kim Tae-hee gave an exclusive interview on the tvN variety show 'You Quiz on the Block' on the 20th, her first in 15 years. Speaking about her experience raising children, she couldn’t help but break down in tears, admitting that raising her two daughters is even harder than giving birth to them. During a long solo flight to New York to promote her new film, she deeply felt, 'It made me think it’s good to be alone.' After a five-year hiatus in her acting career due to raising her children, she now wants to focus more on acting and advancing her career. She also revealed that she and her husband Rain have differing views on parenting.

When talking about the pressure of parenting after marriage, Kim Tae-hee couldn’t hold back her tears on the show, confessing that raising kids is truly harder than giving birth. She originally didn’t plan on having a second child, but it happened naturally. In order to avoid yelling at her kids as much as possible, she relieves stress by reading books. She also stressed that raising children is very emotionally demanding, and sometimes the stress passes on to her mother and husband Rain. When the stress affects her mother, Kim Tae-hee later feels guilty, thinking that she hasn’t been good enough to her mom. On the program, she sent a message to her mother: 'I love you, Mom,' expressing both her apologies and gratitude.

When asked what she would do if she could have some time for herself, Kim Tae-hee shared that during the nearly 15-hour flight to New York, having rare time alone made her feel, 'I think it’s good to be alone. Although time flies by quickly, I still want time that’s just for myself.' She emphasized that after a five-year break, now that her children have grown, she feels more at ease and wants to take on more projects. Her passion for acting has been rekindled, and she’ll soon return with the Hollywood Amazon Prime Video original series 'Butterfly.'

Kim Tae-hee also talked about how Rain is a 'daughter-doting dad.' Whenever their daughters say something to him, Rain always replies, 'Okay!'—which leads to differences in their parenting approaches. She explained that Rain tends to give in to the girls’ requests, often giving them gifts and junk food or snacks, which has created a 'kind father, strict mother' dynamic at home. She often plays the 'bad cop,' insisting that their daughters eat healthy foods and limit their snacks.
