45-year-old Cecilia Cheung and Nicholas Tse announced their divorce in 2011. Since then, she has been raising their two sons, Lucas (谢振轩) and Quintus (谢振南), on her own, adopting a friend-like approach based on respect. Even her former mother-in-law Deborah (狄波拉) has spoken highly of her parenting.
On a recent episode of the Chinese show “Blossoms On The Road 2” (<一路繁花2>), Cecilia chatted with Carina Lau while taking a walk. She shared how she gets along with her sons, saying they often exercise together: “Anything on the water, surfing, playing ball, whatever—it's all fine. And fashion—I shop with them because they like to coordinate their outfits. (Do you shop for them, or do they shop for themselves?) I shop with them, and they ask me, ‘Mom, does this combination look good?’ and I get involved with them.” Their interactions are just like friends, which has made many netizens envious.
After hearing this, Carina Lau revealed that Deborah has praised Cecilia for raising her grandsons so well: “Their grandmother is always praising you. She says you’re raising those two boys marvelously.” Cecilia responded, “No, it’s what I should do. Their nature is very good.” In a previous program, Cecilia mentioned that she seldom scolds or hits her children: “I rarely scold, but I speak frankly, and I always add, ‘If you’re sure, you will have to bear the consequences.’ (What if he makes a mistake?) I'm okay with it, because I believe that without making mistakes, there’s no way to improve.” Her parenting philosophy has also received lots of positive feedback online.
